RACCOON DOG (NYCTEREUTES PROCYONOIDES)

Raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is a mammal of the Canidae family. Considered to be a primitive species of the canine family, with old forms of the canine species. The tail is short compared to the length of the body The fur is very dense, gray-black or white. The muzzle is short, sharply pointed. The ears are erect, short, with rounded ends.

In 2013, Sweden implemented a program to reduce their number, and Denmark aims to completely eradicate this harmful species by 2015.

All over Europe, raccoon dogs have become an invasive species, causing significant damage to local fauna, especially birds. In 1997 There are about 6,700 stray dogs in Lithuania. In Lithuania, it is hunted by sneaking, lurking, with cave dogs in caves.

Hunting is freely allowed - the animal is hunted all year round.
