ROE DEAR (CAPREOLUS CAPREOLUS)
Roe deer is widespread in Eurasia. The European Roe deer used to live behind the theoretical border between the Baltics and the Black Sea on the East, but today, they have migrated towards the area of the Ural-Volga. They can be also found in the southern part of Scandinavia and in Asia Minor and Pre-Asia.
Its main living habitat is the rare tree stock rich in bushes and undergrowth, segmented by fields and meadows. In the early summer, it likes to rest on farmlands and on the high grain fields.
Deer trophies hunted in Lithuania are among the best in the world, proving the high quality of domestic roe deer management.
Roe deer hunting in Lithuania
The open season for bucks starts on the 1st of May. Most of our guests choose this period since this is the best time to get a roebuck on the end of your gun. In terms of hunting, the rut season is a special period, which lasts from the third week of July to the middle of August. Deers are called with a whistle, creating a special atmosphere during the hunting. The hunter imitates the calling or emergency sounds of the roe doe, and this might even lure the otherwise very careful old bucks close to the rifle. Often it's not the animal that you expect, which react to the call, and sometimes it happens, that bucks, which have been hiding during the whole season are lured out and hunted down. Roe deers are hunted from high seats or stalking. In late summer, it's possible to combine roe buck hunting with hunting wild ducks, or even wild boar hunting.
In Lithuania, the cull hunt for roe-doe begins after the harvest of the agricultural crops has been finished, in the late autumn period. Hunting happens by stalking, from high seats, or in a driven hunt.
